A bus driver was handcuffed after authorities said his school bus was left unattended and drifted across a roadway eventually crashing and injuring at least two students.
According to WJLA, the crash happened Monday morning in front of High Point High School in Washington D.C. The school bus hit an 8-year-old boy who standing at a bus stop in front of the school at the time and injured another child who was a passenger aboard the bus. Some other students on board the bus may have suffered minor injuries.
WUSA9 reported that witnesses sprang into action and pulled the child who was hit out from under the bus.
The children involved are expected to recover.
Authorities have not said why the bus driver left the bus in the first place, but believe he was headed to a nearby middle and elementary school.
The driver, who was at the crash site when Prince George's County Police arrived, is expected to be charged with reckless endangerment.
The incident remains under investigation.
