Hillary Clinton found herself needing to dodge a shoe a woman threw at her on Thursday during her speech in Las Vegas.
Clinton joked with the crowd after dodging the shoe tossed at her shortly after she stepped up to the stage at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries convention, reports The Associated Press. "Is that somebody throwing something at me? Is that part of Cirque du Soleil?"
She added, "Thank goodness she didn't play softball like I did."
Ilene Rosen, an attendee at the meeting, told the AP that the woman walked to within six rows of where Clinton was before she tossed her shoe.
The woman then immediately surrendered by putting her hands into the air and walking towards security, who then removed her from the room.
Reuters reports the Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie said the woman shouldn't have been at the speech. He noted that she was spotted as she moved towards the stage and tossed the shoe before anyone could reach her.
The shoe tossing scene on Thursday is reminiscent of when President George W. Bush was at a Baghdad press conference in 2008 and someone threw a shoe at him as a way to protest.
