A woman who gave birth to a baby at a bar in Bethlehem, Pa. and then smothered the child, received a sentence of life in prison.
The Morning Call reported that on Thursday a jury found Amanda C. Hein guilty of first degree murder in the killing of her baby that she smothered in a bar bathroom.
In August, Hein went into labor while she was watching a sporting event with her friends at a bar. The 27-year-old, who hid her pregnancy from everyone, retreated to the bar’s restroom. There, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy, but suffocated him with a plastic bag and shoved him in the toilet.
The New York Daily News noted that Hein returned to her friends after about 40 minutes with bloody clothes. When her pals asked what happened Hein told them to ignore it before heading out for a cigarette break.
Her suspicious friends reported her strange behavior to the authorities.
A cleaning crew made the gruesome discovery of the infant the following day.
Hein pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty.
