The DC Comics Universe is preparing for the upcoming film Batman vs Superman which will be released in theaters in the summer of 2016 and is a sequel to Man of Steel. This film will also be leading the way into the next film in the DC Universe which is expected to be released in 2018 and it is a film about the Justice League.
The Washington Post is reporting that currently the only confirmed details about the upcoming Justice League film is that they have gotten Zack Snyder to be the director of the film. They have not confirmed a release date for the film and has a script has not been developed yet, this is probably expected considering that they are still in the early production stages of the Batman vs Superman film.
The idea behind the Justice League film will be to achieve the same level of success that Marvel’s The Avengers brought in back in 2012. The Avengers was the highest grossing movie of 2012 and has had great financial success with the Iron Man, Captain America and Thor film franchises. The Wall Street Journal reports that DC is trying to catch up to their rival Marvel and hopes these upcoming films will bring popularity to the DC Universe as they compete with Marvel.
Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are all confirmed for the Justice League film. Henry Cavill is expected to be back to reprise his role as Superman while Ben Affleck will again play Batman and Gal Gadot, who will portray Wonder Woman.
There has been speculation on who would join them. They have been trying to cast someone to play Cyborg and the characters Green Lantern, Aquaman and The Flash have all been in the Justice League in the comics. It will be interesting to see how the Justice League film comes together in the next couple years.
