The sequel to Olympus Has Fallen has been acquired by Focus Features and they has set a U.S. release date of Oct 2, 2015. The sequel has been titled London Has Fallen.
Variety reported that the main competition on that date is from Fox with their release of Frankenstein. Gerard Butler will be returning for the sequel but the director has not yet been named for London Has Fallen.
Butler will be reprising his role as a U.S. Secret Service agent. The movie will focus on London when an attack takes place during a funeral for the British prime minister; who died under unknown and mysterious circumstances.
Deadline added that the sequel is being written by Creighton Rothenberger, Katrin Benedikt and Christian Gudegast. The movie is being produced by Butler, Alan Siegel, Mark Gill, and Matt O’Toole.
No other plot details or cast has been announced for the film.
Olympus Has Fallen was released back March of last year by FlimDistrict. The action drama grossed $98.9 million at the domestic box office.
