It seems it was premature to announce that Adam McKay would be replacing Edgar Wright as the director of Marvel's Ant-Man as he has decided not to take the job after all.
Despite being in negotiations to take control of the Paul Rudd-starring superhero film just Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter, McKay opted to pass on film.
It has been said that it was the Anchorman director's decision to move on to different projects. No further explanation for the about-face has been revealed yet.
Marvel will now need to resume the search for a director and other possible names tossed around as potential replacements have been Rawson Marshall (We're the Millers) and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland).
It was previously reported on Friday that McKay had stepped in to helm the project after Hot Fuzz director Wright decided to exit Ant-Man late last week due to creative differences.
There were rumblings that Wright and Marvel execs were butting heads after the latter supposedly ordered a script re-write without informing Wright.
Ant-Man is still scheduled for a July 17, 2015 release date, but that could change if the search for a new director continues to drag on.
