Alex Gibney will be honored this year at the American Film Institute’s documentary festival, AFI DOCS. Gibney is the 2014 Charles Guggenheim honoree.

The AFI DOCS Charles Guggenheim honors masters of the nonfiction form. "Alex Gibney's personal drive to find and expose truth in film makes him one of the most important documentarians of this and any generation," said Christine O'Malley, interim director of AFI DOCS, according to the LA Times. "His films have etched a place in American history, both as compelling independent storytelling and journalism, so it is particularly fitting that AFI pay tribute to him in Washington at the National Archives.”

Gibbney is known for his work on the films, We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks and The Armstrong Lie, according to Indiewire.

Gibney’s films will be presented at the festival. Gibney will be there to field questions from the audience. The Guggenheim Symposium takes place June 20 at the National Archives.
