Scotty McCreery, country music singer, was visiting with friends early Monday morning when he suddenly found himself being held at gunpoint during a home invasion.

The American Idol alum and four others were held facedown at gunpoint near his college, North Carolina State University only a couple hours after midnight, reports . Police say that the gunmen stole their wallets and phones, but left McCreery and company otherwise unharmed. They said it isn't known if the residence was specifically targeted by the gunmen.

One of his friends who lived in the apartment called police and said, "We got robbed," and added, "They are all freaked out."

McCreery took to Twitter later in the day to tell followers, "Yes, it was definitely a very scary night. Luckily, my friends and I are safe and the Raleigh PD is on the case." The singer noted that he would eventually discuss the event more but was worried it could "hinder the investigation" to speak up now.

A neighbor in the apartment complex told WTVD that she heard people running upstairs and simply assumed it was just college kids having a party until the police showed up.
