A woman jogging near an Air Force base in Alaska was survived an attack by an aggressive brown bear on Sunday. After the attack, she struggled to walk 2 miles to find help.

The woman, who has asked not to be identified, was hospitalized in stable condition on Monday. She suffered lacerations to her neck, arms and legs.

Mark Sledge, senior conservation law enforcement officer said, “The bear attacked her, defending her babies, seeing her as a threat,” Daily News.

Bleeding and shocked from the attack, the woman began walking to find help. A soldier saw her walking, and immediately took her to a hospital on base. She was then transferred to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.

Mark Sledge told Fox News, “The survival instinct for that woman is phenomenal,” USA Today.

Sledge reminds people to be careful, as springtime in Alaska is a time when wildlife such as bears will aggressively defend their young.
