Bill Clinton responded to Karl Rove’s speculation that his wife, Hillary Clinton, has “brain damage.” The former president said he was “dumbfounded” by the remarks and criticized the Republican strategist.
“First they say she was faking her concussion, now they say she’s auditioning for a part on The Walking Dead,” Clinton said at the 2014 Fiscal Summit Wednesday, reports USA Today. “She is strong, she is doing great. As far as I can tell, she’s in better shape than I am.”
Clinton’s comments come after Rove reportedly said during a conference last week that Hillary Clinton might have suffered “brain damage” after her fall in December 2012. Rove tried to distance himself from those comments, saying that the New York Post quoted him wrong. However, he still suggested that her health was a cause for concern.
“There’s nothing to it,” Clinton said, notes the New York Times. He said he was “sort of dumbfounded” by Rove’s comments.
Hillary Clinton did spend a few days in the hospital after the fall and doctor’s discovered a blood clot. She did suffer a “very serious concussion” and it took her months to recover, Clinton said.
Clinton predicted that Rove’s comments will be just the beginning, as his wife considers running for president in 2016.
The 2014 Fiscal Summit in Washington was sponsored by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. While budget policy was supposed to be the main topic, Clinton focused more on politics during a Q&A session.
