On Monday, the extremist group Boko Haram threatened to sell some 200 Nigerian schoolgirls it took credit for kidnapping.
According to CNN, a videotape, first obtained by Agence France-Presse, features a man claiming to be Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau making threats about his intentions with the kidnapped victims.
"I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah," the man said. "There is a market for selling humans. Allah says I should sell. He commands me to sell. I will sell women. I sell women."
The Associated Press noted that it was unclear if the video was shot before or after last week’s report that some of the girls had been forced to marry their abductors, who paid a nominal bride price of $12.
The teenage female students of the Government Girls’ Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, were abducted last month.
The Nigerian government has drawn much criticism for not yet finding and rescuing the kidnapped girls.
President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he does not know where the girls are but everything is being done to locate them.
