Once director John Carney will team with Bono and The Edge of U2 for the musical film Sing Street.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Dublin-set Sing Street is inspired by Carney’s childhood. The film follows private-school student Cosmo, who forms a rock band after being forced to attend public school. Like Cosmo, Carney once played in an Irish rock band. In the early ‘90s, Carney played bass and shot videos for The Frames.

The founder of The Frames, Glen Hansard, was the star of Carney’s breakout film Once. The 2006 film won the Academy Award for Best Original Song that year. Hansard and co-star Marketa Irglova, who is also a professional musician, wrote all the music for Once.

For Sing Street, Bono and The Edge will take over songwriting duties. Entertainment Weekly reported that they will contribute to other musical elements of the film as well.

Sing street will begin filming in Dublin this September. The Weinstein Co. is will distribute the film and Carney’s most recent project, Begin Again. Begin Again stars Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley and will open on June 27.
