X-Men: Days of Future Past got off to a fairly strong start heading into Memorial Day weekend, while Adam Sandler's new film Blended, while not a flop, clearly won't be competing for possibly either of the top two spots.

The latest X-Men film earned $36 million at the box office, with $8.1 million coming from late Thursday showings. Forbes reports that the film is projected to earn about $110 million through the four-day weekend. That's a decent opening figure, but nothing spectacular.

In the film's second weekend, Godzilla raked in another $8.8 million and will likely gross about $40 million for the weekend. Gareth Edwards' film is already up to $126 million domestically, with a worldwide cume of $220 million.

The second new wide release, Sandler's Blended only managed $4.4 million, and could struggle to even reach $17 million over the four-day holiday weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This will likely be one of Sandler's worst openings openings in recent years.

Universal's Seth Rogen-Zac Efron comedy Neighbors managed $4.2 million for its third Friday at the box office. The R-rated comedy manage to hit the $100 million mark yesterday.

Rounding out the top five was Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which pulled in $2 million and might gross about $10 million, which would bring the domestic cume to $187 million. The super hero flick has already earned $650 million at the worldwide box office.
