Filmmakers and attendees are preparing for the Cannes Film Festival, beginning on May 14. The festival will begin with the premiere of Grace of Monaco with Nicole Kidman.
French director Assayas says that premiering in competition in Cannes is "sheer adrenaline.” “Cannes for some reason has its own wave. It's really a matter of chemistry," says Assayas, according to the Associated Press. "You can be extremely proud of the film that you've made and blah blah blah, but you never know how it will interact with the film festival, with the vibe of the festival. You have to cross your fingers.”
Many films will compete for this year’s Palme d’Or. David Cronenberg is one of the 18 filmmakers who will be vying for the award. Bennett Miller and Tommy Lee Jones are some of the Americans bringing films to the festival this year. Jones will be offering The Homesman. Miller has taken on the wrestling drama, Foxcatcher, according to The Independent. Ryan Gosling will be making his directorial debut with Lost River. Jane Campion will lead the jury this year.
