On Sunday, eight female performers were sent plunging to the ground in the middle of an aerial circus routine and now authorities believe that a faulty clamp was to blame.
According to USA Today, on Monday, authorities said that the clamp that fastened the metal framework to the rafters of the building failed.
“We have identified a clamp that snapped that held them to the rafters, and it failed,” Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare told WPRO-AM.
As we reported earlier, the frightening mishap at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center was all caught on video.
Several performers were sent to the hospital as a result of the freak accident, but miraculously everyone survived the ordeal.
Many parents were attending the 11 a.m. performance with their children when the “human chandelier” stunt went awry.
"It just went crashing down," audience member Sydney Bragg, 14, said. "Everyone was freaking out. We heard this huge clatter and then we just heard the girls scream."
