Despite the many obstacles she is facing, this toddler isn’t allowing her medical conditions get in the way of her love for dance.
Three-year-old Brielle Crawford was born with two very rare genetic disorders that threaten her ability to move on a daily basis: hemifacial microsomia, a congenital disorder that affects the development in the lower half of the face and Klippel-feil syndrome that left two of the child’s spinal bones fused together in her neck. In the case of little Brielle, the disorders have mainly affected the right side of her body,KEZI 9 News, an ABC News affiliate reported.
“She has a pelvic kidney on the right side. She’s missing a rib on the right side. Her ear did not develop on the right side. She has paralysis on the right side,” said Jaylene Crawford, Brielle’s mom in the interview.
Because a single fall could potentially paralyze the toddler, Brielle’s mom was sure dancing was out of the question. After further monitoring however, the doctors reconsidered and allowed her to partake in her dance lessons in Oregon, according to ABC News.
Doctors are continuing to monitor Brielle and have said she will eventually need more procedures as she grows. The teachers at her dance school have put together a benefit dance concert that will take place today to aid in the costs of Brielle’s future surgeries.
