Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl will soon have his own HBO show.

Classic Rock Magazine reports that Grohl will host a documentary series in which he will visit and play at some of the world’s most famous recording studios.

According to Rolling Stone, studios featured will include Electrical Audio in Chicago, Inner Ear Studios in Washington, D.C., and Rancho De La Luna in California, where Queens of the Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys frequently play.

Grohl will also interview well-known musicians who have recorded at those studios. So far, confirmed guests include Kiss frontman Paul Stanley, Eagles’ guitarist Joe Walsh, Heart’s Nancy Wilson and Fugazi’s Ian MacKaye.

The show will be similar to Sound City, a documentary Grohl directed and hosted in 2013 in which he explored the history and closing of Sound City Studios, the Los Angeles recording studio where in 1991 Grohl, Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and producer Butch Vig recorded Nirvana’s landmark album Nevermind, including the album's opening track “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

The film, which premiered in the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, was praised by fans and critics alike. It holds a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that 100 percent of critic reviews for the film were positive, and it holds an 8.6 user rating on Meta Critic, which the website labels as “Universal Acclaim.”

While discussing Sound City with Rolling Stone last year, Grohl said his film had a noble purpose.

"Sound City is about having kids see this film and be inspired to go to a yard sale and buy a guitar and start a band and play in the garage and then take over the world,” he said. “Because that can still happen. It happens all the time. To me, personally, it's the most important thing I've done because it's not for me."

The show is expected to air as part of HBO's winter lineup.
