Actor David Schwimmer might not be having much success on the small screen in his post-Friends career, but he is a hit with New York police after helping them solve a stabbing.

The New York Post reports that a fight between three men started in a first-floor apartment in the building on East 6th Street next to Schwimmer’s building. The fight then went into the hallway, with one man breaking through a glass door in the lobby.

Following the fight, 26-year-old man was taken to Bellevue Hospital, suffering from stab wounds to his face. Police sources told the Post that Robert Rainey, 21, was later arrested and charged with robbery, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

The third person in the fight was a transvestite prostitute who ran off during the fight.

Police initially had only the accounts of the two men to base their reports on, but then discovered that Schwimmer actually had a security camera on his building pointed at the neighboring building. They watched the tape and took it as evidence to use in court.

Schwimmer famously spent $4 million on the building in 2010 and was not initially the most popular person in the area. Last year, someone wrote “Ross is not cool” in graffiti, referencing his Friends character.

Schwimmer tried to get back on TV with an ABC pilot, but the network did not pick it up.
