Rap and rock 'n' roll lead the nominations for the 2014 MuchMusic Video Awards next month in Toronto. Rap superstar Drake and rock 'n' roll band Hedley lead the event with six nominations a piece.

In a few of the categories Hedley and Drake will be competing against each other including, the best video and best director categories,The Hollywood Reporter added.

SonReal, who is a well known hip-hop artist, grabbed five nominations, followed by Arcade Fire and The Weeknd who each received four nominations.

Additional nominees for the event include, Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber, Sam Roberts Band and Thugli.

The award show is also set with a few headline performances. Imagine Dragons and Lorde will both be taking the stage during the show to perform their latest singles.

National Post reported that this is the 25th anniversary of the award show and it will be hosted by Kendall and Kylie Jenner. The show can be seen on Much, CTV, and CTV GO at 9 p.m. on June 15th.
