A Washington driver caused a three-car crash on Sunday after he fainted while holding his breath as he went through a tunnel in Oregon.

Police say that 19-year-old Daniel J. Calhon admitted he fainted while driving his Toyota Camry through a tunnel after holding in his breath, reports KATU.

His car then veered into the center line where it crashed into an oncoming SUV, causing the two vehicles to smash into a tunnel wall. A pickup truck then accidentally rammed into Calhon's car.

Four people involved in the crash suffered injuries, but none were considered too serious. Calhon and passenger Bradley Meyring, were two of the injured, according to The Associated Press.

There have not been any reports explaining exactly why Calhon was holding his breath in at the time, but it could potentially be attributed to a superstitious belief or a game the teen was playing.

Police cited Calhon for three counts of reckless endangerment, fourth-degree assault and reckless driving.
