The former lead singer of Journey, Steve Perry, joined the Eels on stage Sunday night in Minnesota, marking his first time publicly singing in nearly two decades.
The singer joined the band during their second encore, with Eels vocalist Mark Everett introducing Perry and noting he originally stepped out of the limelight "because it didn't feel right," reports Rolling Stone. However, "for some reason only known to him, he feels like tonight in St. Paul, Minnesota, it feels right."
With the Perry now on stage, the Eels played Journey's "Lovin,' Touchin,' Squeezin' and "Open Arms." The reclusive singer also took the time to belt out an Eels song that he always was a fan of, "It's a Motherf---er," according to Us Weekly.
He told the crowd it was a song he always enjoyed listening to and "When I first met [Everett], I said someday I wanted to sing that song. And tonight is the first time I've ever sang it."
Us notes that Perry also backed away from music as he's struggled with a variety of health-related issues, such as hip replacement surgery, melanoma surgeries and arthritis.
