Police announced on Saturday they had identified the man who went on a planned shooting rampage in Isla Vista, California Friday night. They also revealed that in addition to the shooting deaths, there were three stabbings.
Santa Barbara County Sherriff Bill Brown revealed that the shooter was a 22-year-old Santa Barbara City College student by the name of Elliot Rodger, who is counted among the dead, reports the Chicago Tribune.
Before Rodger began shooting at nearly 10 different crime scenes, he stabbed three males at his home. "It was a pretty horrific crime scene, Brown said. From there he drove by a UC Santa Barbara sorority where he shot three female students on the sidewalk, with two dying of their wounds.
Rodger then passed a nearby deli where he got out of his car and shot a male UCSB student before hitting to bicyclists with his car. He then fled the area as deputies arrived on the scene, drawn by the gunshots.
After two clashes with police, Rodger was hit in the hip with a shot and would crash his car into a parked vehicle. Brown said that at that point the college student took his own life.
After the shooting, a YouTube video, since pulled down, was discovered that was originally posted by Rodger, where he goes on a rant over constant rejection, noting that he would "punish you all for it."
Rodger has had three run-ins with police, with the most recent one being about a well-being check, which deputies "cleared the call" after talking with him.
