Jack White ripped The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach in emails that surfaced last year and he’s not done slamming the rock duo. He called the band a complete rip-off if his old band, The White Stripes.
Back in August 2013, White’s ex-wife, Karen Elson, included an email filled with rage directed at Auerbach as proof of White’s temper. Elson filed a restraining order against White, fearing for her own safety and the safety of their two children.
During an interview with Rolling Stone this month, Keys drummer Patrick Carney said that White “sounds like an asshole,” but he still feels sorry for White and his situation. “We've all said f**ked-up shit in private, and divorce is hard,” Carney added.
While that seemed to be it, White did not let it rest in his own Rolling Stone interview, which appears in the new issue. He said that he will often hear commercials that are ripping off his music and “Half the time, it's the Black Keys.”
White admits that he didn’t invent the blues, but, like Amy Winehouse, he notes “certain acts open up a market for a certain style.”
He later continued, “The White Stripes did the same thing, and in our absence, you're gonna find someone to fill that. And you get a band like the Black Keys, who said they never heard of the White Stripes? Sure.”
White released his solo album, Blunderbuss, in 2012 and has a new one on the way - Lazaretto. As for the Keys, they just released their first album since 2011, Turn Blue.
