Cirque du Soleil has made shows out of popular music artists’ catalogs and now the Montreal-based circus troupe is ready to start adapting films to its unique brand of entertainment. Up first is an Avatar show, which will be developed with James Cameron’s participation.

Cirque du Soleil CEO Daniel Lamarre and Cameron made the announcement Thursday at the C2MTL conference in Montreal, reports the Montreal Gazette. The tour will begin in 2015 in cooperation with Cameron and producing partner Jon Landau’s Lightstorm Entertainment. 20th Century Fox, which distributed the film, will also be working with Cirque.

Avatar remains a phenomenon that continues to inspire people around the globe, and combining it with the live event ingenuity of Cirque du Soleil is a perfect synthesis of imagination and talent,” Fox chief Jim Gianopulos said in a statement, notes Variety.

The show will start just in time to create more excitement around the property before the first of Cameron’s three Avatar sequels hit theaters. The Titanic director is in pre-production for those films.

Avatar is the highest-grossing film of all time, earning $2.7 billion worldwide after its 2009 release and topping Titanic. The film was nominated for the 2009 Best Picture Oscar and won three awards in the technical categories.
