James Cameron is working on a remake of the 1966 20th Century Fox classic Fantastic Voyage and has reportedly signed David Goyer to work on the script.
Goyer, who is best known for his extensive relationship with Warner Bros. and the DC Comics characters, has been hired to write the treatment for the project, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox are producing the remake.
According to Deadline, plans for a remake were first announced in 2011, with Night at the Museum’s Shawn Levy signed to direct. There was an update several months later, with Levy looking to make his follow-up to Reel Steel, but there had been no news since.
Shane Salerno, Cormac and Marianne Wibberly, and Laeta Kalogridis also worked on various drafts, but are no longer on the project.
The original 1966 film centered on a team of scientists who are shrunk to microscopic size and use a submarine to save a colleague. There is still no release date set.
Goyer worked on Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, wrote Man of Steel and is working on Superman vs. Batman. He is also developing Sandman, based on the DC/Vertigo character.
