As producers, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been attached to make a movie about the '70s sex scandal between Yankee pitchers Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich for Warner Bros for years. But, alas, the movie has yet to see any development, until now, as director Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Game Change) has been hired to direct the picture.

Since 2010, the celebrity friends have attempting to make a movie of the story, including directing duties being passed between the two, but their busy schedules have not allowed them to work on the project. They are both clearly passionate about the movie, however, so Variety reports on Roach's recent employment to the project.

Scripted by David Mandel and re-written by Affleck and Casey Affleck, the movie has been in development since 2010, but this is the first time in a while that the movie has seen any growth in years.

Described to be either in the vein of Shampoo or perhaps "one of Sydney Pollack's classics from the '80s," it is unclear at this time whether or not this movie will be a comedy or a drama. Given the variety in Roach's filmography, this distinction in tone is even less clear than it was before.

Although Affleck and Damon considered themselves for parts in the movie in the past, it appears that they will only be involved with this movie as producers.

In addition to this movie, Roach is also attached to direct a biopic of the Blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo with Bryan Cranston as Trumbo and Helen Mirren staring in the movie as well.
