Santa Ana police announced on Wednesday that they found a 25-year-old woman who went missing nearly a decade ago.
According to the Huffington Post, the victim was reported missing in 2004 after she was kidnapped by her mother’s boyfriend, Isidro Garcia, when she was just 15.
CNN noted that investigators believe that Garcia began sexually assaulting the girl in June of that year. In August, he allegedly attacked her mother, drugged the daughter and drove her to a house in Compton, where he locked her in a garage to prevent her from fleeing.
Authorities said that the 41-year-old repeatedly abused the child and over time told her that her family has stopped searching for her. Garcia also allegedly impregnated the victim and she gave birth to a child in 2012.
"Even with the opportunity to escape, after years of physical and mental abuse, the victim saw no way out of her situation and lived a life with Garcia under sustained physical and mental abuse," police said.
She finally was located after reaching out to her sister on Facebook.
Garcia was arrested and charged with kidnapping for rape, lewd act with a minor and false imprisonment.
