Warner Bros. has set a release date for its LEGO Movie spinoff Ninjago. The film will hit theaters in fall 2016.
The Ninajgo film will be a 3D film featuring the already popular ninja line of sets from LEGO. Ninjago characters already have their own Cartoon Network series called Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu and did appear in the first LEGO Movie.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Ninjago will be directed by Charlie Bean (Tron: Uprising). Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who helmed The LEGO Movie, will be producing.
The movie hits theaters on Sept. 23, 2016.
As for a straight sequel to The LEGO Movie, that is, of course, also in development. Chris McKay has been hired to direct after working as the animation co-director on the first film. Lord and Miller will also produce. That movie, currently titled The LEGO Movie 2, will open on May 26, 2017.
The first film hit theaters in February and grossed $460 million worldwide, including $254 million in North America.
