While director James Wan has been involved with the Insidious franchise for its first two installments, it appears that he is going to be passing the torch for the series' third go-around.

As Slashfilm notes, Wan will not be returning to the series, but instead will allow Leigh Whannell, who wrote Saw and Dead Silence for the filmmaker in the past, to make his directorial debut with the sequel.

Wan announced the change-up on his Twitter as he stated:

Wan currently is directing Fast and Furious 7, he will not be able to return to the series. Whannell has been tapped to write the film since September, but this is the first time it has been announced that he was the film's director as well.

Insidious: Chapter 3 is set to hit theaters April 3, 2015. The film will begin production on July 7th.
