Lionel Richie will be receiving the Lifetime Achievement award at this years BET Awards. Richie is a musical legend who is known for his singles, "Endless Love," "Dancing on the Ceiling" and "Hello."

Entertainment Weekly reported that along with being honored at the ceremony he will also be performing during the awards which will air live on June 29th at the Nokia Theater in L.A. starting at 8 p.m.

Richie started his musical career as a member of The Commodores and he then transitioned into being a solo artist. In total his career he has sold over 100 million albums and has received five Grammy Awards.

Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award include famous musicians; Whitney Houston, James Brown, The Isley Brothers, Gladys Knight, and Diana Ross.

Chris Rock will be hosting this years award ceremony, People reported.

Rock is already preparing for his hosting duties. In a recent interview he expressed that no one would be off limits when it comes to his opening jokes.

"Nobody is off limits. I'm sure I'll get some memo I'll ignore," said Rock.
