The death of Maya Angelou early Wednesday morning came as a surprise to the world, and also shook the Twitterverse. The famous poet and author passed away at the age of 86, but remains a trending topic on Twitter.
Fans of Angelou took to Twitter where #MayaAngelou is trending, to mourn her passing.

Even President Barack Obama posted a picture on his own Twitter of him and the late Angelou from 2011.

According to The Washington Post, the friendship of Obama and Angelou began during the 2008 campaign. Obama remembered Angelou as a” fierce friend” and called her a “brilliant writer” as well as “a truly phenomenal woman.”
Angelou’s Twitter account currently has 459, 000 followers. The last tweet from Angelou was posted on May 23, just 5 days before her death.
