In her Monday night interview with Anderson Cooper of CNN, Michelle Knight recalled just how Ariel Castro was able to convince her to come to his home.

CNN reports that Knight got into Castro’s car at a Family Dollar in Cleveland back in 2002. Under the impression that she could get a puppy to take home as a gift for her son, Knight accepted the offer of a ride to Castro’s house.

“I really didn’t think nothing of it until, you know, we got into the house fully,” said Knight in the interview. “That’s when it dawned on me that this was a mistake to get in his car.”

CBS News reports that Knight was the first to be kidnapped by Castro, followed by Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus.

After a decade of torture in his Cleveland home, the three women were rescued and reunited with their families in Mary of 2013.
