Say goodbye to hopes of six seasons and a movie. After a fifth season of low ratings, Dan Harmon’s Community has been cancelled by NBC. The peacock network also cancelled Revolution.
The news about Community wasn’t all that surprising, although there was some hope in March that the show would get a sixth season by default. It was thought that NBC would be so desperate for a show that it would greenlight another season. However, with About A Boy getting renewed, keeping Community alive doesn’t make sense.
Community had a rough life, including a fourth season that was not overseen by creator Dan Harmon. Since season four didn’t suddenly draw in audiences, Harmon was welcomed back. But, as Entertainment Weekly points out, the fifth season only averaged 3.8 million viewers and a 1.6 18-49 rating.
Danny Glover also left during the season and Chevy Chase left during season four. Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi and Yvette Nicole Brown did stay on, though.
McHale, who hosts E!’s The Soup confirmed the news on Twitter:

So, Community not only fails to hit six seasons and a movie, but it also came in three episodes shy of 100.
Revolution, which counted J.J. Abrams as an executive producer, has also been cancelled, TV Guide confirms. That seemed likely after Constantine got picked up this week.
