The 2002 hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding is getting a sequel – with its stars Nia Vardalos and John Corbett returning for more.
The sequel will focus on life after Fotoula 'Toula' Portokalos (Vardalos) marries Ian Miller (Corbett) and they have a daughter of their own. After a family secret is revealed, the entire Greek Portokalos clan will reunite for yet another wedding.
“Now that I’m experiencing motherhood, I’m ready to write the next chapter of my family story,” Vardalos told Variety of the sequel. “Of course, a few jaded folks in the press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true.”
Vardalos will not only return as the sequel’s co-star, but she’s currently writing the script and will executive produce. Rita Wilson, husband Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman will produce while other executive producers include Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer, Norm Waitt and Steven Shareshian.
Daily Mail reports the original film made of $369 million on a budget of $5 million.
