Authorities said an Ohio farmer accidentally shot and killed his farmhand after he mistook her for a groundhog.

According to the Associated Press, 22-year-old Natasha Stover was shot once in the head by the 79-year-old farmer on Monday. The woman died in a hospital the following day.

Stark County Sheriff George Maier said that Ralph Adams Jr., spotted what he thought was a groundhog in one of his fields and fired his rifle from 165 feet away.

The small animal the elderly man thought he saw was actually Stover laying in some tall grass at the Sugar Creek Township farm.

The New York Daily News noted that the farmhand loved her job and animals.

Her obituary reads: “For the past year and a half she enthusiastically went to work each day at a dairy farm, near Navarre, where she milked about 70 cows, took care of the calves and helped with the feeding and cleaning.”

No charges have been filed against Stover’s boss, however, an investigation is still underway.
