One dead, thousands evacuated as Oklahoma wildfire burns

Several homes have been destroyed, thousands have evacuated and one person has died as a result of an Oklahoma wildfire that started burning on Sunday.

According to NewsOK, a 56-year-old victim as found dead in his mobile home in rural Logan County. Authorities said that man, who perished in the fire, was asked to evacuate previously, but refused to leave.

Fire officials said that Air National Guard helicopters were being called in to help battle the blaze that already consumed some 3,000 acres.

KFOR reported that the fire was about 75 percent contained on one side, however, over 100 homes on the north side of the burn area are still being threatened.

“The northern boundary of the fire is of most concern right now between Prairie Grove and Industrial,” said Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow.

The fire was the largest of several that started to burn in the state possibly due to the unseasonably warm temperatures that crept into the 90s and strong winds.
