Since its production last summer, little has been mentioned about Jon Stewart's directorial debut Rosewater, but that changed today as Open Road Films acquired the film.
In a press release found at Collider, the studio announced its purchase of the film as well as its plans to release it on an unspecific date this fall.
Given the film's Oscar buzz, this plan is of no big surprise. But it does demonstrate the confidence the studio has in the film for the impending film festival awards circuit.
Based on the memoir by BBC journalist Maziar Bahari with Aimee Molloy, the film, also written by Stewart, will center on the 118 days that Bahari was held hostage in Iran after trying to interview Mir-Houssein Moussavi in 2009.
Stewart took a break from hosting The Daily Show last year in order to take this movie. Filling in for him at the time was John Oliver, who now hosts in own show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO.
