Pharrell Williams, the recording artist who made a splash with such hits as “Happy,” was glad to talk about the story of his hat.

"I bought it five or six years ago," Williams told me during the band's sound check, according to W Magazine. "I went into the store World's End in London with my friend Ronnie Newhouse to buy a pair of boots for my wife. While we were there, Ronnie [a creative director who understands the power and history of fashion like few others] told me that the hat was designed by Vivienne Westwood and was championed by her then husband, Malcolm McLaren, who managed the Sex Pistols."

Williams lead an upbeat performance of his songs at the first ever iHeartRadio Music Awards. He also accepted the innovator award. Williams was nominated for an Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for a Motion Picture for the Original Song, “Happy.”

Williams also became a new judge on NBC’s The Voice, according to the Daily Mail. He is replacing Shakira and Usher.
