Michael Jackson isn’t the only deceased music star still releasing new music. Queen guitarist Brian May said on Monday that the group will be releasing a new album this year with vocals from their late frontman Freddie Mercury.
In a BBC Radio interview, May was asked about his favorite Queen song and decided to pick an obscure tune. He picked “Made in Heaven,” the title track from the group’s 1995 album, the first with vocals from Mercury after he died. As Rolling Stone notes, he mentioned that he had been going over unreleased vocals again recently to put together a new album.
“I've just been doing something very similar because we found a few more tracks with Freddie singing and all of us playing and they're quite beautiful,” May said. “People will be hearing this work toward the end of the year."
The album will be called Queen Forever and will “probably” be out by the end of 2014, according to May. Most of the material will come from the 1980s, when the group was at the height of their popularity.
May also admitted that he’s “secretly and quietly workshopped” a sequel to the hit musical We Will Rock You with writer Ben Elton.
Queen is set to tour with Adam Lambert this summer, starting in Chicago on June 19. You can also get May’s recently published Diableries: Stereoscopic Adventures in Hell, a book about French stereoscopic cards.
