Universal announced on Friday that the movie studio has decided to push up the release of Luc Besson's Lucy by two weeks.

The science fiction action film, starring Scarlett Johansson, was originally scheduled to open against Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Warner Bros.' Into the Storm in early August, but will now instead hit theaters on July 25, reports Deadline.

While those two films, along with Helen Mirren's The Hundred-Foot Journey, likely will be decent enough draws, the July date isn't exactly empty either, making it a curious decision.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal did not reveal a reason for the move, but now Johansson will have to face off against Dwayne Johnson's Hercules, Cameron Diaz's Sex Tape and Lionsgate's Step Up All In.

Lucy follows Johnasson's character who is forced into being a drug mule and is tasked with carrying some mysterious drugs. While trying to deliver the drugs, they begin to leak into her system, causing her to become superhuman and she decides now is the time to get revenge.
