Hot sauce manufacturer Sriracha said on Monday that he is not intending to move the Huy Fong Foods. Dozens of residents in Irwindale, California complained about flaming hot odors coming from the food plant that burned their throats and eyes.
Lawmakers are dealing with complaints from the residents who say that odors from the chili-grinding makes them sneeze and cough. City Council members are considering the issue, and will say whether the plant is considered a public nuisance on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. Owners of Huy Fong are fighting the legal action.
David Tran, who is an immigrant from Vietnam, does not want to move the operation because his peppers are grown locally in California. Huy Fong Foods is located in the small, industrial city of Irwindale. The company did $80 million in sales last year. Lawmakers verified that, although there are no financial incentives, there are many fine motivations to doing business in their state.
Tran said that he has had offers from public officials who brought up that Texas is also “business-friendly,” according to Reason.com.
