A Texas Army Ranger went missing off the coast Belize after he and a friend went kayaking and got caught in some rough waters.

According to the New York Daily News, rescuers are still searching for Army Ranger Wrangler Shane Leesman, who has been missing for over a week after his kayak veered off the coast of Ambergris Caye.

The search is being conducted by the Belize Coast Guard, Belize Defense Force and volunteer residents from the town of San Pedro.

The 29-year-old was with Army Corporal, Bradley Josker, near the Belize Barrier Reef when they were hit by a wave and separated from their kayak and each other.

Josker and the kayak were found by the Coast Guard during the first phase of the search and rescue operation, but there has been no sign of Leesman.

KHOU reported that his friends do not think enough is being done to find the Special Forces veteran, but if anyone can survive this long at sea Leesman can.

"Hopefully they can find him," friend Chris Micheli said. "I know he's strong enough to make it."
