A Texas teenager is facing a possible life sentence after he was arrested for allegedly making and selling pot brownies.
Jacob Lavoro's apartment was searched back in April when police came to arrest him and discovered about 1.5 pounds of already made brownies, as well as marijuana and hash oil, reports The Associated Press>. If found guilty, the 19-year-old could get a sentence from anywhere between five and 99 years.
The problem isn't so much the marijuana the police found, but rather the hash oil, which is a controlled substance and classified under a higher penalty, making it as bad as ecstasy or amphetamines, as far as the law is concerned.
Lavoro's attorney and father are outraged that the Round Rock officials would charge the teen with a first-degree felony, according to KEYE. "It's outrageous. It's crazy. I don't understand it," Joe Lavoro said.
"Five years to life? I'm sorry. I'm a law abiding citizen. I'm a conservative. I love my country. I'm a Vietnam veteran, but I'll be ***ed. This is wrong. This is ***n wrong!"
Lavoro's lawyer, Jack Holmes, also was livid since authorities appear to plan on using the weight of the brownies against the teen, which they are able to do because of the hash oil usage. "They've weighed baked goods in this case. It ought to be a misdemeanor."
