This Sunday’s episode of the Simpson boasts new CGI effects. In Episode 550, the Simpsons family looks like Lego forms.
Using CGI, the entire town of Springfield and the Simpsons look like Lego figures for the episode, “Brick Like Me.” Homer moves between two worlds in the show, according to Variety. The CGI team behind the episode created the 2-D world of the Simpsons and the Lego world.
Did the toy company and The Simpsons plan a long series of product or film tie-ins? According to executive producers from The Simpsons, there aren’t tie-ins to the recent Lego movie.
"People are probably looking at it going, `All this fits and it's a plan.' No, it was just the love of Lego" and creativity, not cross-promotion,” Al Jean, The Simpsons executive producer, said at a teleconference this week, according to the Associated Press.
Lego was consulted, though. Selman said that he and Kelley worked on the plot of the episode in 2012, before The Lego Movie was released.
A number of recognizable characters make appearances in the episode, including Rev. Lovejoy, voiced by Harry Sharer.
The Simpsons airs on Fox on Sundays at 8PM.
