The film is a based on the lives of Walter and Margaret Keane, a real-life couple. As Slash Film explained, Walter Keane gained widespread attention in the ‘50s and ‘60s for his paintings of big-eyed children. In reality, however, it was his wife Margaret who was the true artist of the works.
According to Ain’t It Cool News, Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz will star as Margaret and Walter Keane, respectively. Burton cast the two stars when he came aboard for shooting in the summer of 2013. Terence Stamp, Jason Schwartzman and Danny Huston share the screen with Adams and Waltz, as well.
Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski wrote the script and were originally slated to direct. The duo previously worked with Burton on 1995’s Ed Wood.
The Weinstein Co. has set Big Eyes to open against Hot Tub Time Machine 2, Into the Woods, Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and Cameron Crowe’s currently untitled new film, ComingSoon.net reported.
