Revenge is key in this week’s new films. With the loss of their loves and livelihoods, the characters in the new releases seek vengeance and redemption. Revenge even plays a role in the backstory of a longtime Disney villain. Retribution is even seen in the old west in a new comedy from the man behind Ted.

A down on his luck farmer falls for the new woman in town in A Million Ways to Die in the West. As their feelings get stronger, her outlaw husband shows up with revenge on his mind. The one hour and fifty-six minute comedy stars Seth MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman and Neil Patrick Harris. It’s rated R for sex, language, violence and drugs.

Find out the backstory of the witch in Sleeping Beauty with Maleficent. She started out good, but a gut-wrenching betrayal turned her heart into stone. Seeking revenge, she casts an evil spell on the king’s baby. Angelina Jolie stars in the PG adventure. It plays for one hour and thirty-eight minutes.

James McAvoy plays a cop with his sights on a big promotion in Filth. Despite his many vices, he knows that he’s the only man for the job. He believes that if he solves the next big case, his wife will come back to him and he will get that promotion. A music journalist searches for her lost love, a famous rock star in Lucky Them. With her job on the line, she is forced to revisit her past to uncover what really happened to her ex-boyfriend. As a result, he sets forth on a road trip with a friend who documents the experience. The one hour and thirty-six minute comedic drama stars Toni Collette, Thomas Haden Church, Oliver Platt, Ryan Eggold and Johnny Depp. The limited released film is rated R for language, sex and drugs.

Set in medieval times, Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas tells the story of horse merchant whose life is altered when his animals are stolen by a nobleman. Seeking justice, he forms an army to restore the rights of the people. The unrated drama is playing in limited theaters for two hour and two minutes.

Three extreme environmentalists go to great lengths to help their cause in Night Moves. Despite their different paths in life, they share the same radical stance and decide to bomb a hydroelectric dam. When paranoia sets in, they begin to question themselves and each other. The limited released thriller runs for one hour and fifty-two minutes. It’s rated R for language and nudity.

In Delivery: The Beat Within, an expectant young couple films their pregnancy for a reality show. As they await the birth of their first child, the cameras capture some unexplainable acts, leading the wife to believe that she is the vessel for the devil. The unrated horror film runs for one hour and twenty-seven minutes. It’s available in limited theaters.

Despite their lack of musical instruments and talent, a group of girls form a punk band in We Are the Best!. It’s a coming of age story of three teen girls looking to rebel against the norm. The unrated Swedish film is subtitled in English. It’s playing in limited theaters for one hour and forty-two minutes.

The effect of the war on soldiers is explored in Korengal. The limited released documentary is a sequel to Restrepo, following the same platoon in Afghanistan. It showcases the different perspectives and reactions of those that are putting their lives on the line to protect freedom. The one hour and thirty minute film is rated R for language.

The films go from this week’s real life war battle to an alien attack next week with Edge of Tomorrow. June 6 is also the release date for Shailene Woodley’s Fault in Our Stars and the comedy Obvious Child.
