About 18 years after Tupac Shakur was shot on the Las Vegas strip, his last words have been publicized for the first time.
Chris Carroll, the Las Vegas Police Department bicycle officer who arrived at the scene of Shakur’s fatal drive-by shooting, revealed the legendary rap star’s fitting final words in an interview with Vegas Seven magazine: “fuck you”.
Pressed for the information, Shakur resisted the officer’s questioning and then apparently found solace with his fate. “I kept asking over and over, ‘Who did this? Who shot you?’ And he basically kept ignoring me,” Carroll recounted. Suddenly, Shakur “went from struggling to speak, being noncooperative, to an ‘I’m at peace’ type of thing”.
Shakur readied his last words as a final, bold act of defiance before succumbing to his wounds: “He looked at me and he took a breath to get the words out… I thought I was actually going to get some cooperation. And then the words came out: ‘Fuck you.’”
Shakur was shot several times by an unknown assailant in a white Cadillac on the Las Vegas Strip on September 7th, 1996 after his entourage became involved in a fight in the lobby of the MGM Grand hotel. His murderer’s identity remains unknown to this day.
