With a summer production set, it seemed for a good while that Will Smith's next project would be Julius Onah's adaptation of Marcus Sakey's novel Brillance. But, that seems to no longer be the case, as Smith has just exited the project.

According to Deadline's report, "the exit comes down to timing." It doesn't specify what the timing is for exactly, but considering that Smith has more than a few projects down the pipeline, it could likely be any number of films and sequels that Smith is working on. If this is to be believed, of course.

Co-starring Noomi Rapace, this movie is expected to be the first in a planned trilogy centered on takes place in a world where one percent of the public, called "brillants," born with heightened cognitive abilities.

A full description of the book's plot can be read on its Amazon page.

Smith will next be seen in February's Focus.
