This week the iconic voice of songstress Cher could be heard during a 51 second sample for the upcoming “secret” album of the all-star rap group Wu Tang Clan called The Wu – Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.
According to Rolling Stones, Cher’s role in The Wu was released back in March when the album website listed Bonnie Jo Mason as a guest appearance. She used the same pseudonym for her first solo single without husband Sonny Bono. During the short snippet, Cher can be heard singing, “Wu-Tang, baby. They rock the world."
Forbes reports that writer Zach O’ Malley traveled 3,500 miles to Marrakech, Morocco where the album is being produced by local artist Tarik "Cilvaringz" Azzougarh. The rare preview is the only content of the album released to the public, as the Brooklyn group plans to release just one copy up for auction to the highest bidder.
Cilvaringz says of Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, “That title, is because this is the final time that you are going to be able to hear the guys as they were then, it’s like nostalgic.”
Thus far, group member RZA received a $5 million offer for their masterpiece.
