Fox’s The Fault in Our Stars earned $48 million stateside at the box office this weekend, with an added $17 million from foreign releases.

Shailene Woodley’s last release, Divergent, only made $54 million in its opening weekend, according to Variety.

The film, based on John Green’s novel of the same name, was made on a $12 million budget and features a romance between two teenagers with cancer, played by Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.

The Fault in Our Stars’s competitor, Tom Cruise’s The Edge of Tomorrow only made a meager $29 million over the weekend, while Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent earned $33 million.

Thanks to Woodley’s fame and John Green’s built-in fanbase, the film easily outperformed the film’s projected earnings as early as Friday night. The film has also received an ‘A’ Cinemascore, reports Fox News.

The film was produced by Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber wrote the script.
